About Debjani's Art
Debjani Datta is a contemporary artist based in the Seattle area, whose work explores nature, memory, movement and the emotional language of color.
Her artistic journey began in Kolkata, India, more than three decades ago and has evolved through painting, textiles and mixed media. Over the years, her practice has continued to change and grow, shaped by her experiences, surroundings and an enduring curiosity about the world around her.
Working primarily in semi-abstract forms, Debjani combines expressive color, organic shapes and layered textures to create paintings that are both evocative and open to interpretation. Nature is a recurring presence in her work; not as a literal representation, but as a source of rhythm, energy and inspiration.
Her paintings often explore the space between the familiar and the imagined, inviting viewers to pause and discover their own emotions, memories and stories within the work.
For Debjani, painting is an ongoing conversation between intuition and observation, color and form, memory and imagination.

"I bought the Scriptures: Original Abstract Oil & Acrylic on Canvas. Fantastic piece. Beautiful work. The picture doesn't do all the justice. Thank you Debjani!!
G. Vadera, Chicago, USA
"We contacted Debjani, and she was an absolute pleasure to work it. She described the inspiration behind 'The Musicians' (the set that we purchased). The posted pictures did little justice to the splendor it adds to our home now. So happy with it. Looking forward to collecting more artwork from her in the future :)

Hi I'm Debjani
I’ve been an artist for over 30 years, beginning with a small block-printing shop tucked away in the lanes of Kolkata. What started as an experiment with patterns and colors soon became a lifelong pursuit, from charcoal sketches and pencil studies to the fluidity of watercolors and the boldness of oils and acrylics. Art has been my constant companion through every season of life, a source of expression, healing, and connection. Thank you for taking the time to explore my work and share in this journey.
